the fine line of the pen and fthe keyboard

Life is surrounded by writing. The influence of writing is unnoticeable. In this journal, it's primary purpose is to ponder on what people these days view of the concept of writing in contrast of the computer and the pen.

I agree with Christina Hass that our view of writing has evolved from the quill to the ever sheik touch screen "typing". I believe that we as a generation could not imagine ourselves without modern technology. Our culture can viewed as advanced or as handicapped. I mean we have been blessed with the easy accessibility to put our thoughts on a screen and have the ability to publish it to the world. But on the other hand, we have drifted from the originality of writing. If for some freak reason, the Internet and all computers were to crash, how would our society handle the outage? Writing should be the mixture of technology and manual labor of the hand and paper. I can understand where Carl Rashke is coming from. From my understanding, he is saying that we are too dependent on technology, which is a very good assumption. We have overall have surpassed the age of hand writing things down. I mean writing is not the only thing that has transferred over to the Internet.

In Peter Hall's writing, he gives a peak into a potential virtual life that we can obtain by only subscribing to a website. We as a people/civilization have not just put our thoughts in front of the world; we can even create our own versions of what we believe we are. We can mold our lives in what we want. Writing is not the only thing that has evolved. People can make up their own worlds, friends, loves, and identities. Technology in this class has opened my eyes. Before I was very skeptical about this transition for me. I have used the traditional method of computers and typing. I had never used the computer in my writings before. I think this class has showed my mind how to be a little more free in how i express myself. I have a little more power to write what i really feel because I know that someone out there in the world will read what I think is important.
Technology has transformed the world. It has the power to turn an ordinary paper into something fantastic and vivacious. It has the ability to help someone who dislikes their life by giving them the chance to escape the real world and have a life they only dreamed of. Like Hall said, "..it is a life in which anyone can transcend the societal and physical constraints they feel are unavoidable in reality; a simple life of manifested dreams."(Bishop, 403)

horror

Columbine::
my heart was beating faster as i heard the shots. BANG...BANG..BANG. i heard sady scream. i spotted the gleam of the silver barrel and the jet black handle. At that very moment the etch of the gun was forever sketched in my mind. Everyone's faces were pale and full of shock. my heart was starting to return to normal beat then he stepped into my class room. HE stood at the FRONT of the CLASSROOM. the BLOOD of two of MY Friends were on HIS HANDs!!!

the image enhances the story. the audience sees what the author has etched in their mind. you see the thing that she is haunted by everyday of her life!!!
